Who We Train

Psychiatrists and other psychiatric providers can dramatically shape mental health care delivery using integrated care approaches in the rapidly evolving landscape of health care reform. We are committed to preparing our trainees for this emerging field and offer a wide range of opportunities to explore integrated care settings and possibilities.

Population Mental Health and Integrated Care Program Fellows

This post-residency, year-long fellowship trains psychiatrists in integrated care clinical work, implementation, and scholarship. Population Mental Health and Integrated Care Program Fellows focus on developing the necessary skills to deliver population mental health with an emphasis on leveraging psychiatric expertise by collaborating with other providers.

Community-Based Psychiatric Providers

The Community-Based Integrated Care Fellowship welcomes psychiatric providers seeking additional training to deliver integrated care in community-based settings. Modeled after employed MBA programs, this 10-month part-time training program is structured as an employment-friendly program with a priority of flexibility in scheduling, including a self-paced distance learning component and quarterly in-person specialized skills work sessions.

Collaborative Care Rotation Curriculum for Trainees

The AIMS Center has developed a clinical rotation curriculum to introduce a senior resident to the role of the psychiatric consultant in a Collaborative Care team. The six modules below cover the fundamentals necessary to assume the role of a psychiatric consultant on a Collaborative Care team. The content trains a psychiatrist to function in any role at the interface of primary care and mental health and may be useful in programs even where a Collaborative Care setting isn’t available.

Addictions Psychiatry Fellows

The overarching mission of this program is to provide psychiatric physicians with advanced training in the skills, clinical judgment, and knowledge necessary to the practice of addiction psychiatry to enable them to assume leadership positions in the field. The one-year UW Addictions Psychiatry Fellowship program consists of inpatient, partial hospitalization, outpatient, consultation, dual diagnosis, women specific, and opioid agonist treatment environments. Didactic training occurs through participation in weekly seminars.

Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry Fellows

An ACGME-accredited program for 5th year residents, the UW Consultation-Liaison Fellowship provides multidisciplinary subspecialty inpatient and outpatient training in consultation-liaison psychiatry and a unique chance to practice integrated care models in primary care settings and specialty medical settings.

Geriatric Psychiatry Fellows

While not limited to integrated care research, the UW Geriatric Psychiatry Fellowship leverages faculty expertise in integrating mental health assessment and treatment into diverse geriatric service settings.

Psychiatry Residents

All UW psychiatry residents receive training about the integrated care approach to medicine and serve as a psychiatric consultant co-located in a medical or surgical clinic during a 12-month rotation. Numerous faculty members known for their innovative contributions to the field nurture our unique emphasis on integrated care and guide our trainees through this exciting time in psychiatry.
