Dr. Thomas Soeprono, MD completed his residency in psychiatry at University of Washington. As a resident, his teaching efforts and innovation were recognized with a ‘Teacher Scholar Pathway Area of Distinction’ and an ‘Outstanding Teacher Scholar’ award. He has continued on at UW in a psychosomatic/consult-liaison fellowship, and is now an Acting Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry. Clinically he has worked on inpatient psychiatry, the psychiatry consult-liaison service, and is currently the director of transplant psychiatry and a primary care consult psychiatrist in a collaborative care clinic (BHIP). In those roles he places a strong focus on teaching psychiatry, to both future psychiatrists, primary care colleagues, and a wide range of other medical trainees
Leadership and education are at the core of Thomas’s academic interests. One of his primary roles is as the Associate Program Director for the psychiatry residency at UWMC. This position keeps him actively involved in resident education and policy-making to ensure the well-rounded training of psychiatry residents. Additionally, he is the coordinator of the first year resident didactics, and is continually revamping and updating the curriculum in response to changing needs. He also serves as the module leader for the consult-liaison psychiatry series for the second year psychiatry residents. In all of these roles, he is deeply involved in resident education and leadership.
