Profile: Freda Liu, PhD

Dr. Freda Liu, PhD is an attending psychologist at Seattle Children’s Hospital and an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at the UW Medical school. Prior to coming to UW for residency and fellowship, she completed her graduate training in Psychology, with a clinical child specialization, at Arizona State University. For her undergraduate studies, Dr. Liu graduated cum laude from Claremont McKenna College in southern California with a BA in Psychology.

Dr. Liu’s clinical practice includes inpatient consultation and outpatient individual, group, and family therapy. She specializes in Dialectical Behavior Therapy and Cognitive Behavior Therapy for teens struggling with a variety of mood and anxiety disorders as well as behavior problems including chronic suicidality and self-harm. Dr. Liu also provides parent-training and consultation for managing young children and teen’s anxiety and behavior problems. She is also fluent in Mandarin Chinese and provides bilingual services.

Dr. Liu’s research interests focuses broadly on strategies for improving pediatric mental health care quality, such as increasing measurement-based care—the use of patient/caregiver reported data to inform clinical-decision making, and reducing mental health service disparities.
